Contact line hydrodynamics with SPH
Surface tension effects can dominate multi-phase flows when the length scales of the problem are small. The resulting Capillary forces at a phase interface between two immiscible fluids are proportional to the local curvature of the flow and try to minimize the interfacial area. A more complex situation occurs when three phases are in contact or when two phases are in contact with a wall. The s...
متن کاملSimulation of Cold Rolling Process Using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)
Regarding the reported capabilities and the simplifications of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method, as a mesh-free technique in numerical simulations of the deformation processes, a 2-D approach on cold rolling process was provided. Using and examining SPH on rolling process not only caused some minor developments on SPH techniques but revealed some physical realities. The chosen t...
متن کاملCosmological Radiation Hydrodynamics with Enzo
We describe an extension of the cosmological hydrodynamics code Enzo to include the self-consistent transport of ionizing radiation modeled in the flux-limited diffusion approximation. A novel feature of our algorithm is a coupled implicit solution of radiation transport, ionization kinetics, and gas photoheating, making the timestepping for this portion of the calculation resolution independen...
متن کاملCosmological SPH simulations: The entropy equation
We discuss differences in simulation results that arise between the use of either the thermal energy or the entropy as an independent variable in smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). In this context, we derive a new version of SPH that, when appropriate, manifestly conserves both energy and entropy if smoothing lengths are allowed to adapt freely to the local mass resolution. To test various ...
متن کاملCosmological Simulations with Adaptive Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics
We summarize the ideas that led to the Adaptive Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ASPH) algorithm, with anisotropic smoothing and shock-tracking. We then identify a serious new problem for SPH simulations with shocks and radiative cooling — false cooling — and discuss a possible solution based on the shock-tracking ability of ASPH.
